China home marooned in middle of road is bulldozed

A five-storey home marooned in the middle of a new road in China for more than a year because its owner refused to leave has finally been demolished.

The road, in China's's eastern Zhejiang province, was built around the house because duck farmer Luo Baogen was holding out for more compensation.
Mr Luo, 67, said he had just finished the home at a cost of $95,000 and had been offered only $35,000 to move.
Officials say he finally accepted $41,000, and the bulldozers moved in.
Media attention The home had earned the nickname "nail house" because, like a stubborn nail, it was difficult to move.
China's official Xinhua news agency said Mr Luo and his wife had accepted the new compensation offer and had moved to a relocation area with the help of relatives on Saturday morning.

Governor Suntai Is Brain-damaged - SaharaReporters

Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State, who was seriously injured when his plane crashed on October 25 in Yola, capital of Adamawa State, has suffered extensive brain damage and failed to recognize members of a presidential delegation that visited him at a hospital in Hanover, Germany, an authoritative source has told SaharaReporters.

A source close to a senior member of the delegation described the trip to see Mr. Suntai as highly secretive. SaharaReporters learnt that members of the delegation had officially traveled to Vatican City in Rome to witness the consecration of Archbishop John Onaiyekan as a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. After the ceremony in Italy, the delegation then made a quick detour to Germany to see the injured Mr. Suntai.

A trip put together by Gladys Modupeola Quist-Adebiyi, a staff of the Protocol Department at the Presidency was led by Senate President, David Mark, the delegation included Governor Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State, President Goodluck Jonathan’s chief of staff, Mike Oghiadomhe, also on the delegation was John Kennedy Opara, the secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) and the Chaplain of the Presidential Villa Chapel, Venerable Obioma Onwuzurumba.

Our source said members of the delegation were shocked to see Mr. Suntai in a vegetative state.“His condition was so bad that they could not publicly disclose his condition after they returned to Nigeria,”said the source.

SaharaReporters gathered that Mr. Suntai suffered brain damage in the crash of the small plane he was piloting. The crash happened a short distance from the Yola airport. Initial reports from eyewitnesses said Mr. Suntai had died, but it later emerged that he had survived the crash, albeit with critical injuries. He was transferred to the National Hospital in Abuja before being airlifted to Germany after President Jonathan had visited him and given a rosy picture of his condition.

Four state officials traveling with Mr. Suntai in the crashed plane were treated in hospitals in Adamawa and later transferred to Germany for treatment after a public outcry.

Pregnant Woman Dies In Port-harcourt Hospital Because Of Deposit

A pregnant Nigerian lady has died because doctors in Port Harcourt insisted her husband must pay N20,000, less than $150, before she was treated.

The 34 year old woman, Ijeoma Umumadumere, nee Ahamefule, was rushed in on the morning of 25 November to Garrison Clinic in Port Harcourt, when she complained of a sudden stomach pain and headache, while cooking. Her husband rushed her to the clinic on Udom street in the oil rich city.

But doctors and nurses would not attend to the pregnant woman because the husband only had N5,000 on him, instead of the N20,000 being demanded, as a precondition for treatment. Even the N5,000 the man had on him had been used to offset registration and other costs.

Her brother, based in Austria could not understand why doctors in a Nigerian hospital could have so callously and uncaringly treated the woman, pregnant with her first child. As he put it:

“Her husband begged the doctor and the nurses to attend to her since they had collected about N5, 000 he had in his pocket in the name of registration and other little things while he would go home and bring money. He had also told them that because of the nature of the emergency and the way his wife had been shouting while on the ground that his mind had only been pre-occupied with the thoughts of rushing her to any nearby hospital and had not thought of money or any other thing as he had even forgotten to put on shoes, but all his pleading and explanations to the doctor and the nurses had fallen onto deaf ears. With her pains increasing and death knocking and the doctor and the nurses refusing to understand, there was no way he could have left her there unattended, to go home and bring money. He took her and headed to another hospital, but unfortunately my sister did not make it as the damage had already been done before the doctors in that second hospital could do something reasonable to save her life.”

Governor Fashola yesterday Thursday November 29th ordered the arrest of a policeman riding a motorcycle on Lagos/Abeokuta expressway.

Ritualists Disguise As Beggars At Abuja Carnival To Steal Vital Body Organs Of Unsuspecting Victims

According to a programme on Silverbird’s Rythm 94.7FM Abuja, ritualists took advantage of the just concluded Cultural/Tourism Fiesta in Abuja Tagged, ‘Abuja Carnival 2012 – Carnival of Peace and Harmony’, to perpetrate their evil plans.
These ungodly people disguised as beggars seeking alms from unsuspecting carnival attendees, to explainable steal their sight and vital body organs.

One of such incidences is said to have occurred last Saturday, when a woman supposedly gave alms to a beggar who approached her in the front passenger’s seat of her husband’s car, only for her to discover that she couldn’t see with her eyes anymore.
She immediately raised alarm which attracted sympathizers including policemen and together with her husband, they apprehended the said beggar. After much prodding, the beggar reportedly revealed that he was part of a larger cartel of beggars who were at the carnival with instructions to carry out ritual acts.
When asked what could be done to reinstate the woman’s sight, the beggar reportedly gave the woman back her money and asked her to rub same on her eyes and voila! Her sight was instantly restored.
Indeed, we live in a very weird and diabolic society. No wonder some people would rather make donations to motherless babies and other homes for less privileged than give alms.
